Introduction
Nothing About Us Without Us - About the focus
Titled Nothing About Us Without Us, Trafó’s next two-weekend, transdisciplinary focus connects artistic positions and disciplines, but also diverse minority perspectives.
What does it mean to experience otherness and belong to a minority in Hungary where discrimination and the suppression of minority voices has been on the rise in the past years? Trafó’s focus brings together queer storytelling, crip perspectives, and inclusive performances across abilities with feminist rage, Roma self-representation, and cutting-edge humor, in order to encounter experiences of otherness in an intersectional way–across race, gender, class and (dis)ability–and look for possible solidarities across minority positions.
With the motto Nothing About Us Without Us, we call for participation, self-representation and collective decision-making, but also ask what an art institution can do to support inclusion and solidarity under current societal conditions? How do artists work with their own minority experience, or how can they become allies to others?
This focus does not aim to speak for others, much rather we want to make space for underrepresented voices who create, reflect and speak for themselves.

The fifth day of the focus presents two works about fury: Lili Raubinek's dance performance, Respect for the 23,000, is about the children living in foster homes whom she met during Covid. It mixes Brazilian jiu jitsu, raw contact dance, and hopelessness. This is followed by the anger of the feminist duo Catch Collective (Anita Czakó and Csenge Csutak) with their performance, Vicsor (=snarl) that does not destroy but creates, that is not hysteria but willpower.
