“The ruins and the storm “that we call process” come from the future.” COI (Class of Interpretation)

How to boil the flow? is an extended performance-installation by the artist duo Haibo Illés & Richárd Melykó reflecting on the site-specific exhibition by Project833 at the covered stream of Ördögárok (Devil's Creek). A dark culinary choreography that stirs up the notion of thirst with its performative approach, taking into account the interconnections between the exhibited works and the traumas encased in the site. Through their complex gestures, primarily inspired by boiling and steaming as spiritual practices originating from ancient China, Illés and Melykó perform a speculative revitalisation of the belief in the power of water as 'fertility magic'.

Realized as part of NEXTFEST, Trafó's mini-festival for emerging artists and experimental forms, How to boil the flow? is a pseudo-archaeological exploration of a series of exhibitions by Project833 between 2021 and 2024. Over four years and on four locations (Csongrád, Palotai Island, Lake Nevesincs / No-name Lake, Witch Island), this chain of events - entitled Degree Systems, Petrichor, Eternit, Creak - explored water, its peculiar temporality and relationship to humans. The projects did so with a mystical approach, but also along the lines of real narratives embedded in the given locality.

The artist duo Haibo Illés and Richárd Melykó was invited by Project833 to interpret and delve into the four previous events in their own unique way and reflect on the unconventional site. Previously seen in a different context, the artworks are presented in a new constellation and build on the fragments of the four previous events. The event will take the form of an installation activated in the form of performances that can be visited for several hours, with tours starting every 30 minutes.

Project833's previous one-night-only, after-dark, silent guided tours of the exhibitions have been timed to coincide with solstices and equinoxes. The artworks were adapted to the theme of the event, the chosen location, reflected on its hybrid cultural, natural or even magical character and created a silent immersion while respecting the site and the context of the site.

The event will be documented on video and audio. By taking part in the programme, the participant gives their consent to the recording and the publishing of the documentation of the event.
