Contemporary poetry is also part of Nextfest this year, with a special performative reading by Rebeka Kupihár and the Freeszfe film acting class. For the first time, the sensitive, insightful and political poems of To The God of Heteros will be performed in this form!
The focal point of Rebeka Kupihár's first volume is self-identical, same-sex love, with all its questions, joys and dangers. Cycle by cycle, the volume explores the social, psychological, physical and transcendent aspects of otherness, sometimes with poignant, sometimes with disturbing honesty.
In this performative reading different characters give voice to the quiet intimacy of her poems.
Rebeka Kupihár (Eger, 1999) is a poet and psychologist. Her first volume of poetry, A heterók istenéhez (To the God of Heteros), was published in 2024 by Magvető Publishers. She was awarded Petri Prize in 2023 and received Péter Horváth Scholarship in 2024.
The Freeszfe Film Acting Program 2023/24 is a theoretical and practical training adapted to the needs of today. It approaches the craft of acting from a camera-centred approach as opposed to traditional, stage-oriented methods. Training concept: Orsolya Török-Illyés.
Class instructors: Kristóf Becsey, Natasa Stork, Gábor Szilágyi, Orsolya Török-Illyés.
The program is presented as part of NEXTFEST’s special feminist focus. 8th March is International Women's Day and since 2018 it is also Transnational Feminist Strike Day. We celebrate this occasion by sharing the work of artists who work with a feminist approach.
NEXTFEST is Trafó's very own mini festival, with which it showcases new forms, emerging artists and the joy of experimentation each year. Please find the full festival programme here, most events are English-friendly!
