Imagine a track covered over by the passage of time and rendered invisible. What if we could ultimately revisit the site and trace it back? In flocks we face headlong into the winds, each gauging the weight of the other, day after day. What comes to light, as we raise each other up with acrobatic lifts, is that we are always anchored in this fertile territory which is acrobatics.

For the creation of Möbius, CIE XY, one of the most acclaimed acrobats’ company in France and in the world, was inspired by the movements of swallows’ flocks, of fishes’ shoals and of the nature’s mutability. With the complicity of Rachid Ourandame, 19 performers on the stage inscribe the practice of “acrobatic portés” within a swirling choreography characterized by reckless flights, cloud and towers of bodies and of their dizzying collapse. At the crossroads between dance and acrobatics, dream and gravity, the inauguration of the Ref20 (35th edition) is a leap into the unpredictable thrill of emptiness, where the strength and fragility of human condition meet the inscrutable charm of the nature’s rituals.

Möbius is a joint work of the CIE XY and choreographer Rachid Ouramdane. The choreographer is a returning guest at Trafó: Tordre is a memorable duet which was presented in 2017 in the house. This is the first circus show directed by Ouramdane, so it’s no surprise that the performance is mixing the elements of acrobatics, dance and theater. Moreover, these are barely separable from each other, in this poetic, breathtaking show.
