The Shadow was written by the Nobel Prize winner Austrian playwright and novelist, Elfriede Jelinek who followed the ancient legend of Orpheus and Eurydice by Ovid. The Hungarian premiere is going to be a coproduction between Kata Pető and Dorka Porogi. As an actress and a director, they are important characters of the Hungarian independent theatre life.
The Shadow is a self-ironic and a self-involved monologue performed by Kata Pető. She is going to be the only woman on stage speaking about her life with Orpheus, her feelings about her husband and also about her own death. She will be surrounded by male charaters as well, like the members of the popular Hungarian band called Freakin’ Disco or musician Árpád Kákonyi and also the well known choreographer and dancer Krisztián Gergye. They will all become different images of Orpheus, Eurydice’s husband, who – after all – failes to rescue her from the underworld. They express themselves with music and dance: all the spoken words are Eurydice’s.
The main reason of creating this project is to talk more about feminism and position of women in the 21th century in order to resolve anxieties between the two genders and start new conversations between them.
