Sára Gálhidy is part of a new generation of Hungarian theatremakers, whose multilayered performance is a unique take on musical theatre, blending realism with the surreal. Until now, the young artists have presented this work exclusively on unconventional locations – under a highway overpass and in the industrial spaces of Arzenál music club, a former weapons factory. It will be shown in a black box theatre space for the first time: on this occasion Trafó’s Main Hall will become the space of ritual.

“There is nothing sadder than finding ourselves alone with ourselves, and gazing into our own souls.” (Sára Gálhidy, Lilla Szauer)

A tragicomical story about a young couple, who cannot process the loss of their child. Their relationship reaches a point where they are unable to progress anymore. We are witnessing the culmination of their tragic condition and the effects they have on people around them, who are all already in difficult and damaging personal circumstances.

Sára Gálhidy, the director began her stage directing studies at the University of Theater and Film Arts Budapest and graduated at Mozarteum in Salzburg. Her work focuses on reinterpreting the genre of musical theatre. The author of the play is Lilla Szauer whose writing explores the connections between personal stories and social issues, characterized by a candid, philosophical, and often mystical style. The composer and keyboardist, Sámuel Gyulai is a multidisciplinary musician, who worked on speech-harmonization with a jazzy pop sound and baroque recitative parodies to create a multilayered sound for the production. The visual designer László Békési is a sculptor, painter, but also the saxophonist of the performance. The six young actors are talented, unique performers, versatile in singing, dancing, and storytelling.
