The Act of Pressure is a unique participatory experience exploring different qualities of physical contact – from the most delicate twig balancing to the force of a blow – without participants ever having to experience the latter.

In this encounter, Lili Raubinek and Dávid Somló combine their own performative interests: the contrasting qualities of macho displays of strength, fighting, and subtle twig balancing, inspired by the raw space of a martial arts gym at Soroksári út 158.

During the event, participants will collectively experience various levels of pressure, exploring how touch can become caring, provocative, or a liberating force. Through nonverbal exercises, we investigate the impact of attention, strength, relaxation, and resistance on ourselves and each other.

The Act of Pressure is not combat training, but a sensitive space where everyone can connect to themselves and to others at their own pace, observing their own boundaries. The session is open to all, requires no physical preparation, and involves no risk.
Lili Raubinek is a choreographer and dancer based in Budapest. In 2024, she won the Rudolf Lábán Award for best contemporary dance performance for her work Respect for the 23,000. She creates work at the intersection of dance and theater, addressing societal issues and tensions with a socially engaged, yet personal approach. Her previous works presented at Trafó include the highly successful Diorama of Hungarians and the Lábán Award-winning Respect for the 23,000.

Dávid Somló is a performance maker and sound artist based in Budapest, focusing on spatial-relational practices. Using simple elements, structures, and instructions, he composes performative experiences that evoke connectedness with one’s attention, body, surroundings, and the people around them. His works require active participation to varying degrees aiming to create frameworks where there are no right or wrong decisions, allowing the actions of the audience to manifest in a deeply personal and human way.
