The awaited sequel to László Göndör’s Living the Dream with Grandma is here: an intimate encounter with Éva Katona’s humanistic legacy, shared in the form of a conversation at lunchtime, set in an immersive musical environment.
“László: Continuous fear?
Grandma: Continuous will to live.”
Living the Dream with Grandma – Chapter II: Lunchtime is the sequel of the highly successful theatre project Living the Dream with Grandma by László Göndör and his grandmother, Éva Katona. While the first chapter of the project delves into the relationship between the director and his grandmother, the second chapter focuses on Éva Katona’s survival in the 20th century and her humanistic legacy.
The performance is a unique documentary sound performance that explores the moral and intellectual legacy of Éva Katona – a woman who survived the past century and the Holocaust – through documents of the time she spent with her grandson during the pandemic.
In the second chapter of Living the Dream with Grandma, audience members are invited to experience a conversation recorded in László Göndör’s grandmother’s kitchen at lunchtime in a special immersive sound environment, with music composed by Márk Bartha and performed live by a small ensemble.
While the first chapter of Living the Dream with Grandma worked with a montage of fragments from the original sound archive, Lunchtime focuses on the full recording of an intimate and poetic one-and-a-half-hour conversation between grandmother and grandson.
