"Ruth Yaakov`s Sephardic albums, Shaatnez and Ziara, have been my favorites for many years now. Several of Ruth Yaakov`s songs were inspired by Berta (Bienvenida) Augado, a superb Turkish singer and expert of the Turkish style of singing, who now lives in Israel. I stumbled upon her collection of songs - her solo album - by chance in a gigantic record store amidst thousands of other discs. I’ve been intrigued by these tunes ever since. I always considered the Turkish-Greek-Bulgarian – and the Asia-Minor region as one of the richest musical melting pots in the world. Different folks are living there together; each with their own peculiar sound of music, unique instruments and style of singing, all weaved together with richly accentuated melodies and rhythms. The Jews exiled from the Iberian Peninsula also brought their magical world of music with them. In my interpretation, Sephardic music also symbolizes the dialogue between cultures. This vibrant musical tradition is mainly carried on by women, often focusing on feminine themes: weddings, marriages, and the work of women, as well as ballads and festive songs. I selected a number of these themes. Andras Des accompanies the singing on percussion instruments. His playfully challenging style, humble-subtle rhythms, down-to-earth grooves and eastern percussion instruments make him a very exciting artist and music partner."
