These micro stories display a rich array of references, taking the audience on a rollercoaster ride of rapid, but smoothly and naturally changing moods. Thus, within a few seconds we are taken from a fashion show to a ball, from a spartakiade to a parade, and from the elegance of a Spanish equestrian school or ballet to the joy of carefree cavorting in a meadow. However, there is also a deeper narrative that can be observed: the story of twins, close friends or even the co-dependence of dancer-choreographers. ‘This relationship, no matter how controlled, can still be surprisingly associative, revealing and connecting the problematic nature of action, movement and dance to a series of live and appropriately self-reflective interactions, portraying momentary, personal and existential situations through graceful, frivolous, humorous and ironic gestures. Fresh, playful, smart, sensible – "sassily minimalistic" – contemporary’. (László Százados)
bodylotion co-dance consists of two contemporary dancers and choreographers, Virág Arany and Júlia Hadi. They have been working together since graduating from Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy in 2009. They are interested in exploring choreographic approaches that address philosophical dilemmas, and collaborating with artists from other disciplines. As well as working together, they both teach, and are involved in different international projects.
For ‘S t e p i n T i m e’ bodylotion co-dance received the 2015 Rudolf Lábán Award, the annual prize awarded to the best Hungarian contemporary dance piece of the year. The duet focuses on capturing the invisible change in time. How do we perceive change in a process? Is there a graspable moment? Do we only recognise the result of change? What helps us to realise it in others, ourselves, and in our lives? How can we be present in the process of transformation? This piece places shortened fragments of time into a larger environment, building a coherent sequence from small details. The most permanent characteristic of the piece is constant change.
