The Trafó will be the main venue of the Jazzforum Budapest in September, 2011 for third year running. Three concerts a night three days in a row from the most innovative contemporary jazz bands.

Poland will be in the focus of this year’s festival, since they’ll be taking over the European Union presidency from Hungary. On this occasion, a different Polish soloist or band will be performing every day, including two young pianist “daredevils", Marcin Masecki and Slawek Jaskulke, the promising singer Grzegorz Karnas, and a musician who appeared in a number of international productions as a drummer, Jacek Kochan. Viktor Tóth and Miklós Lukács will be the representatives of the local scene in the performances.
Naturally, such foreign cooperation will yield a number of appearances from foreign musicians. György Szabados will be performing with the “first lady” of French improvisational music, double bassist Joëlle Léandre, whilst Gábor Gadó will make an appearance with Aki Takase, who’s originally from Japan, yet who’s become one of the most celebrated German female pianists by now.
The quintet of Bulgarian-French Georgi Kornazov will be featuring the “chosen one” of French saxophonists, Emile Parisien and Manu Codjia, previously the guitarist of Erik Truffaz, who now leads his own successful trio.
The closing act of the concerts at the Trafó will be the performance of a unique German-French quintet, which will be appearing in this form for the first time: one of the greatest French trombone players, the ‘old fox’ Yves Robert and the young titan, saxophonist Daniel Erdmann will be joined on stage by the rhythm section of Johannes Fink and Christophe Marguet.
