Litmus Group: Amoeba Action

1000 Ft / Student: 600 Ft

It’s important to talk about what’s surrounding us. Without repeating mantras, declaiming, yelling or writing essays for ourselves… and without creating purely esthetic, self-realizing theatre performances, but rather talking and talking.

The Litmus Group was formed in the spring of 2009, with the participation of young directors, dramaturges and sociologists who just began their careers. Their goal is to search for and define through their performances, campaigns and events the role of social – or in its finest sense, political – theatre, here and now in a Hungary facing integration problems while struggling to enter the 21st century.
The Amoeba Action is the first, one-year long youth event of the Litmus Group with the participation of 9 base schools, and the involvement and cooperation of the Jászai Mari Theatre of Tatabánya, the MU Theatre and the Trafó. The group announced a youth competition for high-school age students, asking them to try to explain what it means for them to live in Hungary today. The four young directors involved in the establishment of the group will use the year-long operation of the Amoeba Action, and the works sent in for the competition to attempt to create a coherent, complex theatre performance through a content-based approach, dealing with a wide range of various genres. The units of the subject material are: past – present – near future – and utopia.
