guided tour in the waxmuseum of the future

‘Welcome, dear guests. You are listening to the digitally generated voice of the Cloud. As we all know, the Cloud is a symbolical image for the hypernetwork of data and information of any kind accumulated in the virtual space, a place where all of us are continously present and interconnected. As we gather for the guided tour in our Museum for 2010, we have the privilege to talk to each other. The Museum was instituted in the year 2038, in peace no. 28, only 28 years after the decision of mankind to avoid catastrophy. ‘ ( The voice of the Cloud)

In Hungarian

We are in the year 2060, fifty years after the great change, a change which, for once in the history of humanity, finally marked a change for the better. To celebrate the anniversary a museum is opened to commemorate the year of the Decision. Visitors to the museum encounter an open air installation which is a perfect simulation of the year 2010 —the objects and customs characteristic of that time are displayed; guides clad in historically accurate costumes demonstrate how people lived in that almost bygone era, when humanity seemed to be on a path to the catastrophe.

Petra Ardai, Luc van Loo and Li Yang invite the audience on a journey through time to explore the present. THE CLOUD is not an academic study, but and irresponsible theatrical documentary abou a Utopia that becomes reality replete with humour, self-reflexive irony and a lot of music. THE CLOUD does not seek to moralize, it aims to look at the world with wonder.

THE CLOUD is an international production. For each location, an adapted version is created and presented. The four coproducing countries are: the Netherlands, Hungary, Germany and Belgium. The respective cities and venues in each location are Amsterdam (Brakke Grond), Budapest (Trafó), Berlin (Sophiensaele), Düsseldorf (FFT) and Brussels (Kaaitheater).
