Miss Hungary
A hybrid performance on the dilemma of emigration and staying
To go or to stay? It's not just an individual decision, but a political situation. Staying in Hungary: loyalty or lack of opportunity? Leaving: escape or freedom?
The NPSZ Collective’s new work-in-progress showing at Nextfeszt takes on a hybrid form—one performer guides the audience via video, while two perform live, leading them through an associative space where questions of identity, responsibility intertwine with personal stories and theatrical images.
The project began during residencies in Sweden and the Czech Republic, where the creators explored their own relationships and ambivalent feelings regarding emigration and staying. Through performative actions, online interactions, and situations devised from real-life experiences, they ask: can we make individual decisions during political and economic crisis?
This event is part of the 5th edition of NEXTFEST, Trafó's very own mini festival, with which it celebrates new forms, emerging artists and the joy of experimentation each year. Please find the full festival programme here, most events are English-friendly!
On March 15, 2023, three members of the first performance class of the Freeszfe Association, Zsófia Rebeka Kozma, Noémi Szántusz and Mikolt Emese Tózsa, formed the National Performance Art Theatre Collective. The three performance artists experiment with participatory theatre forms in the spirit of collective creation. Their work Miss Hungary is currently in development with the support of Nextfeszt at Trafó House and Visegrad Fund. Their aim is to research and develop participatory methods inspired by critical thinking both in Hungary and abroad.
