Seven Trials Theatre Troupe will kick off NEXTFEST with a performative opening speech, questioning norms, questioning questioning, with a dash of kitsch, comedy and liberation.
"We often say that we question norms. So much so, that one could say that questioning is the norm. If the norm itself is questioning, then questioning the norm is questioning the questioning. Questioning questioning itself is faith and faith is somewhat like sitting through a long opening speech out of a sense of duty." (Seven Trials Theatre Troupe - Attila Lestyán & Veronika Szabó)
Seven Trials Theatre Troupe launches NEXTFEST with a playful, funny, thought-provoking and critical performance. Questioning included!
In Hungarian. English translation (as print handout) available.
This event is included in the ticket for NEXTFEST's opening day.
The performance is part of the 5th NEXTFEST (5-9 March 2025), with which Trafó celebrates emerging artists, new forms and experimentation every year. The full festival programme can be found here.
Seven Trials Theatre Troupe was founded in 2023 by Attila Lestyán and Veronika Szabó, freelance actors and theatre-makers, who decided to commit to each other and entered into professional matrimony. They choose to make plans for the future together in the middle of a worsening crisis in the independent performing arts scene, that they chose to interpret as a time for reflection and for liberating the imagination. They like to mix things: opera with trash, pop with classical, kitsch with folk or comedy with horror. Their stage can be big or small, a gallery, a fountain, a park, a forest or a public space in the city. They believe in the power of co-creation and co-learning and they want to liberate audiences, whom they think of as a community.
