Diána Vonnák, a writer and researcher focusing on Ukraine, reflects on the question of ‘the end of violence’ in her opening speech.

Diána Vonnák is a social anthropologist and author. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Czech Academy of Sciences. Her work focuses on cultural and memory politics, and wartime heritage work in Ukraine, where she has worked since 2015. Her short story collection, Látlak was awarded the Margó award for best debut in 2022, and in 2023-4 she was a fellow at the Berlin Art Academy. She publishes essays and reports in English and Hungarian, and translates poetry from Ukrainian.
