A concert-infused trip across different time periods, revolving around the story of Anthony Braxton’s 1982 concert in Győr and a legendary preserves exhibition. The story brings to life key figures from the jazz scene and community cultural centres of the era, interpreted by András Szőke and Jenő Hartyándi.

In 1982, word began circulating within Hungary’s jazz scene that Anthony Braxton, one of the most renowned saxophonists of the avant-garde jazz movement, was going to perform at the Petőfi Sándor Cultural Centre in Győr. The news seemed so unlikely that audiences only believed the concert was actually happening when Braxton walked onto the stage. Until then, many had assumed they were simply coming to a record-listening club, or even suspected the whole thing was a hoax.

The performance commemorates this extraordinary event and the work of the dedicated organisers who, despite the circumstances of the time, made it possible for Anthony Braxton to take the stage in Győr. Péter Ajtai talks with Jenő Hartyándi, the organiser of the concert, about what happened, while András Szőke’s presence and Péter Ajtai’s music evoke the memory of Anthony Braxton’s performance in Győr, as well as another event from the same era: a legendary preserves exhibition.
