Cyprien Gaillard (FR/DE) / Dana Kavelina (UA)
Trafó’s season-opening focus The End of Violence kicks off with two premieres. The experimental filmmakers and visual artists Igor and Ivan Buharov and their Antimilitarist Salon present Crisitheism, a large-scale multimedia performance that invites audiences on a surreal journey with live music, analogue films, and Dadaist scenes. Together with an all-star cast of actors, performers and musicians, the Buharov brothers work with dreams collected by Emil Szittya, an avant-garde artist and anarchist vagabond, from acquaintances and strangers during the Second World War. They ask what these dreams tell us about our present and how we relate to current wars and conflicts. Meanwhile, contemporary dance takes over the Club, where young dancers of the AHA Collective and media artist Tamás Páll explore one of the most invisible forms of violence, the burning issues of attention economy and surveillance with their performance installation. The day’s programme starts in Trafó Gallery with a guided tour in Cyprien Gaillard’s solo exhibition led by Vienna-based artist Andreas Fogarasi. The focus’ opening speech is held by Diána Vonnák, writer and social anthropologist, whose research deals with cultural and memory politics, and wartime heritage work in Ukraine.
