RSVP 03. / Soft Method
The next edition of Trafó Gallery's 'RSVP' discussion series is connected to the exhibition entitled The Emperor's New Apparel, which examines an invisible jet deeply revealing critical attitude. On the discussion Jaroslav Kyša and the members of the Apparatus 22 artists collective will present their works and talk about the different critical approaches appearing in their practices.
Apparatus 22 is a Romanian multidisciplinary art collective initiated by current members Erika Olea (b.1982), Maria Farcas (b.1977), Dragos Olea (b.1979) and late artist Ioana Nemes (1979, Bucharest – 2011, NY) in January 2011. The collective works with ideas and actions that will ignite the critical potential of clothing and fashion and that will unveil outstanding narratives of such topics.
The collective currently exhibits in the Romanian Pavilion of the 55th Venice Biennale. Earlier they participated at exhibitions and festivals at MUMOK, Vienna; Museion, Bolzano; Brukenthal Museum Contemporary Art Gallery, Sibiu; MAK, Vienna; Steirischer Herbst, Graz; Young Artists Biennial, Bucharest; Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart; Salonul de Proiecte, Bucharest; Mackintosh Museum, Glasgow; MuseumsQuartier, Vienna.
Jaroslav Kyša (b.1981) was born in Slovakia, currently he is living and working in London. He graduated at the Technical University of Kosice at the Department of Arts and Intermedia. His installations, photos and videos are often based on public interventions, in which he emphasises and transforms everyday situations, banalities, and negligible objects. Irony and a constant pulsation between visibility and invisibility are frequent characteristics of his works. In 2004 he was nominated for Oskar Cepan Prize, in 2009 he is a finalist -, and in 2011 the winner of the berlin based Szpilman Award focusing on ephemeral artworks.
