RSVP 06. / Shifted Parameters

08.05.2014, 6 pm
Trafó Café

The next edition of the RSVP discussion series will deal with Trafó Gallery and with its roles, through which it will examine the main (structural, thematic etc.) shifts of the Hungarian contemporary art institutional system in the past 15 years and at the present. The discussion will raise issues like internationality, regional focus, new generations, social engagement, state culture financing and the restructuring of the institutional system.

The title refers to the discussion-series ’Shifting Parameters’ initiated by Lívia Páldi, which between 2005 and 2007 in 4 events dealt with the meaning of institutionalism, with the main institutional changes of the Hungarian contemporary art scene, and with the most striking questions about this topic. Besides, the current discussion would also like to refer to the question, that now, when the institutional frame of contemporary art has changed the most radical way in the past 15 years, should we still insist on the already institutionalized structure and to its (partly) actual roles, or should we rather put everything on a new base?

The participants of the event are Barnabás Bencsik, Nikolett Erőss, Áron Fenyvesi, Hajnalka Somogyi, curators, former and current leaders of Trafó Gallery. The discussion will be moderated by Eszter Szakács, collaborator at Tranzit.hu, editor of the Hungarian-English online ’Curatorial Dictionary’.
