Scene -س- is a community project focusing on showcasing renowned and upcoming artists from the Arab world bringing forward their distinctive sounds and talent alongside our beloved local artists. In 2022 musicians like 3Phaz, ABADIR, Toumba and Assyouti were introduced to the audience of Budapest.

ABDULLAH MINIAWY

Abdullah Miniawy is an Egyptian expressionist, writer, chanter, composer and actor. Having shared the stage with artists like Erik Truffaz, Kamilya Jubran, Yom, Médéric Collignon, Aly Talibab, A Filetta and many others. He has performed on prestigious international stages and venues such as Festival d’Avignon edition 72, French national theaters, Institute of Contemporary Arts London, Haus Der Kunst museum, Munich, or the Louvre in Paris, and more. As a composer he composed many different sound tracks for dance shows, theater pieces and exhibitions. Abdullah worked with many other producers like Simo Cell, and Hvad. Since 2016 he has been also collaborating with the German trio Carl Gari melding avantgardist electronic soundscapes with poetic lyrics. Their most recent output was released as part of the Berlin Atonal "More Light" compilation, also they teamed up for AD93 with a 6 track mini-album "The Act of Falling from the 8th Floor". https://abdullahminiawy.com

QOW

Qow, aka Omar El Sadek is an audiovisual artist specialising in electronic sound design and animated visuals. His works focus mainly on documenting the fragile nature of his surroundings, including himself. He takes a similar visual approach, investing in poetic imperfections and unexpected intimacies. This principal appears mostly through his collaborations with artists such as MSYLMA & Ismael, ZULI, Drew Mcdowall and KNOW V.A. His works have been previously exhibited at audiovisual festivals such as Unsound Festival 2019, Lunchmeat Festival 2020 and Rewire Festival 2022.

ÁBRIS GRYLLUS

Ábris Gryllus is a Budapest based cross disciplinary media artist and musician. In his music and installations he moves on the border of known and uncharted soundscapes, opening space for associations and different time sensations. Although he has put out a number of albums and tracks in the past ten years on several labels, Ábris Gryllus released his first album under his real name in 2017 (Post_, Farbwechsel Records), marking a new direction where his highly conceptual compositions focus in on experimental electronics. His most recent releases A.D. (Farbwechsel) and Canon (The Death of Rave) are a continuation of this musical process, language development and exploration. https://abrisgryllus.com

THEA SOTI

A new-age vocalist, experimental performance and sound artist based in Cologne, Germany. Born in Subotica (SRB) to a Hungarian family, she studied vocals and composition in Hanover (DE), Cologne (DE) and Lucerne (CH). Her main focus is researching the human voice as an instrument and combining structures of improvisation, electro-acoustic compositions and performative arts. She often explores space and movement in her pieces, integrating installative and performative arts, composed or improvised material. She is regarded as a courageous and uncompromising voice at the interface of creative contemporary music and performance art. Her works (Crushing Concrete, Liquid Fears, Flesh Cages, BiiiiiiiiiRD, VØICES, Pain Mirrors, Don´t Miss Myself Anymore) explore either current socio-political issues such as eating disorders, modern representation of the female body, beauty myths, collective fear, brutality or extreme psychological states. She toured from New York, Paris, Copenhagen, Cologne, London, Budapest, Belgrade, Berlin, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Helsinki, Moscow, Marrakech to Tokyo – both as a composer and as a performer. http://theasoti.com
