The season-opening choreography of the sixth generation of SUB.LAB.PRO’s ensemble program is created by Marie Gyselbrecht from Belgium, who performed for years with the internationally acclaimed Peeping Tom.
ORBIT is a physical manifestation of how we move through shifting constellations of connection. An exploration of gravitational pull between bodies – emotional, physical, and invisible. What holds us in someone’s orbit? Intimacy, habit, fear of inertia? And what does it costs to break trajectory? What pattern are you tracing right now, and who taught you the shape?
This piece strips away the romantic veneer of ‘attraction’ to examine orbit as physics, addiction, duty and echo. It asks: do we stay near someone because we love them – or because leaving would mean learning a new axis?
“ORBIT - on the gravity of almost holding on.”
SUB.LAB.PRO The Ensemble Program is a creative platform for contemporary dancers to expand their technical skills and creative capabilities through choreographic creations. The program is designed to sustain and nourish the dancers at the start of their career paths by offering a complete tool kit that fosters the understanding and realistic appreciation of a professional company-like environment.to. During the training, 4 choreographers create full-evening performances for the dancers. The company presents the finished works on Trafó’s main stage.
Marie Gyselbrecht began her artistic journey as a teenager, performing internationally with Alain Platel and Arne Sierens in “Allemaal Indiaan.” Her solo work was nominated for “Best Belgian Dance Solo,” and after graduating from the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, she became a core member of Peeping Tom. She collaborated on nine major productions with the company, touring internationally to critical acclaim. Expanding her choreographic practice, she created “Taverne” and later the site-specific performance “NEST,” which toured extensively across Europe and received several nominations from the Catalunya Critics Awards and Premis Teatre Barcelona. Her latest work, “HIT THE HAY,” created for Ballet Edmonton, premiered in Edmonton in February 2026. Alongside performance, Marie also works with photography and installation, blending physical theatre, visual storytelling, and the boundaries of live performance.
