The manipulation of power—so familiar from both everyday life and politics—takes center stage in Adrienn Hód’s latest work, The Voice of Power, returning to Trafó’s Main Stage with a sharp mix of dark humor and absurdity.
The voice of power dominates a stadium-like space, sending rules, orders, and instructions into the area. The performers exist within this space of power and thematize their personal freedom and the threats it faces through performative means.
In her 2023 piece, created for the “Humans and Demons” themed Steirischer Herbst festival, choreographer Adrienn Hód examines how the increasingly strict rules, moral, and social norms of our time affect our physical reality. Hód’s darkly humorous choreographic language, accompanied by the experimental church musician Zoltán Mizsei’s voice, uncompromisingly reflects a society that is increasingly torn apart by the unavoidable subjugation to all-powerful figures of authority.

''(...) működésben vannak a társulat jól ismert és jól bevált stíluselemei: a sokszor groteszkbe vagy abszurdba hajló irónia, a félig-meddig idézőjelbe tett obszcenitás, a meztelenség, a negyedik fal (látszólagos) lebontása, az álkomoly monológok, és így tovább.''
