Staring into Space

800 Ft (Trafó bérlet érvényes)

From the very start of our collaboration, it has been our intention as artist-curators to build a unique mental map of contemporary time-based art production. We wanted to present video works without the frame of an over-arching curatorial thematic, in a way that would enable our own obsessions and contingencies to emerge. The video selection was continually influenced by our interest in performance and the performative within the shifting realm of public space. We selected videos that could combine, and confront and coalesce with each other in an expanded context. Together they construct a landscape parallel to the dominant tropes of mass media.

While these videos refer to a variety of cinematic techniques culled from television, film, documentary, music video, computer art, etc., the popular conventions are used only to question and subvert expectations. The concerns of mass entertainment are transformed by these artists in order to reformat, probe and spur-on the viewer’s own catalogue of interior clips. This is the expanded context where looking becomes personal, almost three-dimensional, through a confrontation with existing conditions that grounds this compilation in a vibrant and transformable human experience. From Vancouver to Valencia, from Bangkok to Reyjavik, or from Istanbul to Stockholm. Like a feedback loop between banality and hope. We hope that you will enjoy watching it as much as we did.
