“Our choice of venues pays tribute to those who – as much as 100 years before us – created communities and communal spaces to meet their own cultural needs. We also have the explicit aim of somewhat nuancing the public perception of community cultural centres.” (Csakoda group, 444.hu)

The Csakoda group was founded in 2011 by Dominika Trapp and Márton Dés. Between 2011 and 2013, as part of the nomadic project Képvándorlás Magyarországon (Migration of Images in Hungary), they organised exhibitions in community centres in rural towns and villages together with other young painters and intermedia artists, occasionally collaborating with local cultural organisers and artists. With the exhibition series they strived to make their work accessible to people in rural areas outside of Budapest, who are often excluded from discourses around contemporary art. Over the years, the initiative evolved from a travelling exhibition into a series of research-based, site-specific projects. In 2016, the project received the Katalizátor Award.

For the installation presented at Trafó, the materials from the Csakoda archive were selected by Dominika Trapp, Márton Dés, Árpád Szigeti, and Kristóf Kovács. The installation will feature adaptations of several iconic murals, as well as analogue photographs, relics, and videos.
