As part of the smART! XTRA series of interactive presentations, audiences are invited to find out more about interdisciplinary forms of collaboration between different areas of the arts and creative industries, through a number of ongoing projects. fabrikART's event will focus on creative education.
Researchers’ Night is dedicated to popular science and fun learning. It takes place each year on the last Friday in September, with more than 30 countries and 300 cities involved. The events showcase, in interactive and engaging ways, what researchers actually do for society, and promote research careers to young people and their parents. Cool School is part of the Europe-wide public event series in Budapest.

LOGIFACES AND LOGIPLACES - let's make puzzles better

The most interesting feature of Logifaces is that it takes board games into the third dimension: to solve this puzzle you really do have to think in three dimensions. Similarly, Logiplaces is more than an ordinary traditional puzzle game, the solution here is based on real 3D topographies and cityscapes. These special, concrete-casted block games are mind-bending puzzles, relaxation tools, motoric skill developers and home decor objects all in one. Everyone can test his or her logic skills with Logideez games, and during the session you will be able to take advantage of large discounts on Logideez products.

MAKERSPACE

Makerspace.hu is a modern space for making and maker education, based near the Teleki-Tisza castle in Nagykovácsi.  Our workshop has a wide selection of machines, including 3D printers, modular electronic bits, a laser cutter, a CNC machine, woodworking equipment and sewing machines, helping us to make a variety of products, from samurai robots to smart clothing featuring LED lighting. Our mission is to prove to children and adults alike that technology is for everyone and they are perfectly able to create amazing things that might seem complicated at first.

The workshop is the core of our educational centre, which aims to make learning by doing an integral part of education. Science education becomes much more exciting if, rather than just reading about it in a book, we are given the opportunity to carry out our own project based on what we read about in the book. In this way children can learn to work both independently and as part of a team, acquiring the skills to deal with success and failure, getting better at solving problems, and, by building cool objects themselves, becoming more self-confident and motivated.

We started our first workshops in September 2015, using the colourful littleBits electronics modules to help both children and adults learn about electronics and robotics in a playful way.  As our equipment list continues to grow, we are constantly developing new workshops for children, adults, families and companies.

BIOLUM

Biolum members Virag Albert and Barbara Sterk work with handcrafted electronics to merge analogue and digital techniques. In their artistic research activity they focus on the coexistence of natural, analogue structures and electrical systems. They also run workshops where modifying and shaping electronic devices and playing around with technology in a free manner are highly encouraged.

This event will see the launch of Biolum's new ElektroPakk toolkit, which contains all of the tools, materials and instructions needed to create an electric drawing using LED lights. The toolkit is a great way for children to try the methods used in the popular Electrosketch workshops at home too. Visitors to the event will also have the chance to try their hand at activities such as creating electric drawings, and switching lights on and off using a pendulum.

Biolum is supported by Budapest Metropolitan University.
