More than half million Hungarian were dragged off for “Malenky robot”, a little work to the Gulag. Out of them 300.000 never returned. Those who suffered under the inhuman circumstances of the soviet work camps wouldn’t know anything about their future, nor their family, they were longing for any news coming from home. The time has stopped for them, they grew old very quickly though.
The Balshoi Love is a passionate love story of a married couple. The husband was taken to the Gulag, the wife stayed in the ruined, postwar Budapest. We get to know them and their story through their correspondence. Questions without answers, misunderstandings, untold thoughts, fears, doubts, desires and unconditional love.
