DANCERS wanted for NINO research project by Gibson/Martelli!

Ruth Gibson & Bruno Martelli seek dancers to research & develop a new project where the lines between player, performer, and audience blur — focusing on movement’s essence over physical traits. Images inspired by Joan Skinner’s ‘Releasing Dance Technique’ are modelled as 3D characters and animated using motion capture data.
We are looking for performers to work with us – no prior experience of interactive technology is necessary. We seek open-minded performers to improvise, devise material and share experiences over several sessions. Later stages of the project involve live performances with audiences. Dancers are paid at industry rates for the research period.
The project is part of MODINA (Movement, Digital Intelligence and Interactive Audience) which aims to expand the creative possibilities for contemporary dance performances, and augment the experience for the audience, using digital technology. MODINA finalised 5 projects from their 2025 call for dance and technology residencies with Gibson/ Martelli selected to develop NINO. Our host for the eight-week stay in Budapest is Trafó House of Contemporary Arts, a MODINA partner organisation. Rehearsals will take place at the SÍN Arts Centre.
Ruth Gibson & Bruno Martelli’s worldwide commissions have involved creating immersive art experiences and researching somatic sensing. Their work has been exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Barbican, Centro de Arte Moderna, Lisbon and Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Venice Biennale. Recent exhibitions include Immersive Tech Week, Rotterdam, the 66th BFI London Film Festival Expanded, Zed Festival, Italy, and Istanbul Digital Art Festival, among others.
Nominated for a British Academy of Film & Television Arts (BAFTA), the duo are recipients of several awards: a Henry Moore Foundation New Commission, a National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts (NESTA) Award, and winning the Lumen Gold Prize.
