DieSpace 3.0 is an interactive digital technology-meets-theatre performance by Dutch PiPS:lab where the audience is part of the show.

Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Friendster, LinkedIn, sites you are supposed to want to join. Now our tech-theatre group PiPS:lab wants you to join one more, Diespace.nl. There is one prerequisite though: you have to be dead to join. On DieSpace 3.0 you upload your soul so that you can continue communicating from the afterlife. The audience plays the roles of invitees to a DieSpace 3.0 sales pitch, interacting with the technology in a performance that blends music, theatre, film and a healthy dose of comedy into an absurd theatre/media installation…

DieSpace.nl is the first internet community for those in the afterlife. With granny’s skateboarding on walking frames, musical wheelchairs, many laptops, camera’s and light sensors PiPS:lab presents this interactive and song soaked show about life after death.

You have a death wish but are hesitant to pursue your dream? With DieSpace you
can leave your life and loved ones behind with complete peace of mind!

If I ever had a doubt that technology and theater can and should work together, this was an impressive demonstration of the endless possibilities that can result from the meeting of the two.” Delana Flowers, Pittsburgh

About PiPS:lab
For the past 15 years, the Amsterdam based group PiPS:lab has been producing raw, expressive, visually stunning and interactive multimedia performances. Because they use self written software they master the art of live video editing especially well. In their performances technology (especially video and audio) plays a dramatically theatrical part. The visuals shot during a performance are cut in a whim, manipulated, ripped out of context and triggered by music. The video material is thus as alive and vivid as the actors and musicians are. The collaboration that arises in this way between actors, visuals, live music and audience – where the computer serves as a mixer – is surprisingly innovative and attacks your capacity of perception.

PiPS:lab was founded in 1999. Goal of the collaboration within the group is to create new art forms out of interdisciplinary combinations. The final product has many shapes. It could be a concert, theatre play, an interactive installation or something
completely different.
