A Japanese cult band born out of a media hoax, “stripping a cyborg saxophone down to its raw material,” and the celebration of a body with cerebral palsy: this year, UH Fest once again explores the diverse and unpredictable landscapes of experimental music, bringing together international and Hungarian artists, from noise-laced electroacoustic solo saxophone and experimental-improvised pop to the performative transformation of bodily movement into sound.

OOIOO has always created a musical language all its own. Under the leadership of YoshimiO, a founding member of Boredoms, the group has recorded music that have subverted expectations and warped perceptions of what constitutes pop and experimental music. The all-female four-piece ensemble includes Yoshimi, guitarist Kayan, bassist Aya and Ritsuko Mishina on drums. OOIOO's music is transcendent - taking their love of indigenous music into an entirely new dimension by freely weaving organic and electric tones into a vivid tapestry, employing their keen sense of color and texture. Intense performers and creators, the band has invented a heartfelt musical language that is eclectic yet accessible and completely their own - dense and frantic. 

Michaela Turcerová is a Slovak musician, who likes to bring to life the hidden and otherwise unheard colours of musical instruments. In her project IN FLUX, in collaboration with Jon Lipscomb, she combines modifications to the body of the alto saxophone, surreal amplification, external sound objects, and sine waves into a hybrid percussive organism. From subtle collages to industrial soundscapes, this transformed sonic object enters an intimate electroacoustic space, liberated from the traditional expectations, history, and cultural identity of the instrument. In the words of Jakub Juhás of the label Mappa — “a cyborg saxophone stripped down to raw material.”

Ádám Fekete is a writer, performer and theatre artist, as a musician his practice is influenced by improvisation, noise and collage techniques as well as the blues tradition. As 88 Defibrillátor he is performing a ritual: his diddle bow, harp and voice are accompanied by various household objects, prosthetics, industrial junk attached to his moving body. What you'll get is an absurdist samanic celebration, a dadaist exorcism with disintegrated pop cultural mementos.
