Almost the same – second time around. The Whirling receives a new couple: Bestia (Beast). No, it’s not the Trafó musical theater or the resurrection of the band Bizottság – the piece of the Belgian choreographer will be accompanied on this occasion by the Badora Dance Company and Attila Kun’s new, joint production.
The five dancers of Whirling are constantly pushing their physical boundaries, by distributing and reusing the energy they gain from themselves and each other.
Vitality, simplicity and raw power appears as an energy field on the stage – on one of the field, the various personalities confront with each other, while on the other end is a quiet, calm, idyllic place, a sanctuary where everyone would love to lull themselves asleep. Eléonore Valère-Lachky graduated in P.A.R.T.S. of Brussels and became a member of the Wim Vandekeybus-led Ultima Vez company. He worked with Michele Anne de Mey and appeared at the Trafó with the piece entitled Sinfonia Eroica. She is currently a member of the Belgian Needcompany. The Hungarian audiences had a chance to see her choreographies on several occasions with the pupils of the Budapest Dance School ( „On Friskin” (2008), „Skonifrin” (2009), „Time strecher” (2010)
“Dóra Barta approached me at a not-too-relaxed moment in the life of the Badora Dance Company to prepare a piece for her band. She strives for nothing less than to plant herself firmly in the lava-flow that is the contemporary domestic dance scene after a recent trauma and to defy her difficulties and generate new value through her work. I gladly said yes to her request, especially since after returning form Switzerland, I saw an abomination of uninhibited dance macabre before my very eyes. In light of the rhythm of the scenes and the sad lessons that unfolded, a number of questions occurred to me at once: What remains for an artist who’s forced to face beastly enemies? What gives strength to the individual? What is an artist or a human being’s source of energy, his or her inexhaustible power, faith and sense of humor? Zoltán Kodály’s virtuoso cello sonnet from 1915 reflects on the questions above with surprising clarity. Diita Rohmann and Balázs Kántor’s impressive and dynamic performance revolves around live music, live dance and the living man, fighting against the Beast in a stark and stubborn way.” (Attila Kun)
