Before the concert Sascha Demand will present a short introduction to his music.

Attention music connoisseurs! As part of its 2015/2016 season Trafóklub is hosting the three-part ‘Conceptual Soundproduction Budapest’ series, focusing on different musical instruments. On the first evening we will get acquainted with the ebow, a handheld electronic bow for guitar.

Conceptual Soundproduction Budapest showcases a variety of experimental music and sonic art pieces from throughout Europe, and provides audiences and professionals with insightful workshops and concerts by experts in various fields related to sound and performance.  The group focuses on experimental and conceptual music (the term ‘experimental’ referring to a musical practice that is not primarily output-orientated, but rather investigates the conditions of music-playing and listening, and ‘conceptual’ denoting an inter-disciplinary artistic approach that allows the strategies and procedures of visual art to be transferred into the medium of sound), as well as contemporary music of the experimental tradition and on the own compositions of its own members.

Composer and guitarist Sascha Demand is a performer of contemporary and improvised music. In 1992, Sascha co-founded the improvisation ensemble, ‘Beside the cage’, and since 2001 he has been a member of ‘Ensemble integrales’ in Hamburg. He also co-founded the duo "9kHz" together with Berliner boris d hegenbart-matsui (electronics), plays in the electric guitar duo ‘For regular fellows’ with Sebastian Reier, and in another duo with the fabulous Hannes Wienert. Since 2006 Sascha has run the ‘Gegen den Strom’ improvised music series together with Burkhard Friedrich, and since 2008 he has been the curator of the KLANG! project in Hamburg.

‘The amazing ebow’ presents new artistic approaches to using this handheld string resonator in experimental music. CSB will be working with a graphic score in this project, and as such visual artists, who by nature are easily able to relate to abstract graphic shapes, and are more open-minded than many towards new forms of musical performance.
