SLOW BURNER is a choreographed jigsaw puzzle that invites the audience into a space of perceiving how human impulses, encounters and interrelationships shape the world we move through.

With the ten dancers of SUB.LAB.PRO creating repetitive cascades of movement sequences, daily life appears as a loop of subtle influences and constant negotiation. Loosely inspired by motifs from Zbigniew Rybczyński’s Oscar-winning 1980 short film Tango, SLOW BURNER unfolds through dense moments of shared choreography that make the relevance of relationships transparent and tangible. The work aims to carry the slow tension of accumulation while holding the charge of intense physicality, allowing the audience to unfold, observe, reinterpret and relate to what they see and sense. Rooted in the practice of Treasure Flow, the movement is structured along the principles of threading, fix point, cause and effect, replaying, repositioning and tracing and is further inspired by the hyper-dynamic layering found in British animation artist Cyriak’s artwork.

Valentin Alfery is a self-taught dancer and choreographer coming from the Street and Club Style community. While being rooted in the European jam and battle scene, he started to work as a freelance dancer in theatre projects in 2004. Together with Dušana Baltić, Valentin is the co-founder and -director of the Austrian dance company Hungry Sharks. Following his first major stage work Falling from 2009, he realized seven feature-length productions, the underwater dance performance Zeitgeist and several short pieces with the Hungry Sharks, as well as creations in commissioned, academic or project-based contexts.

SUB.LAB.PRO The Ensemble Program is a creative platform for contemporary dancers to expand their technical skills and creative capabilities through choreographic creations. The program is designed to sustain and nourish the dancers at the start of their career paths by offering a complete tool kit that fosters the understanding and realistic appreciation of a professional company-like environment.to. During the training, 4 (in this season 5!) choreographers create full-evening performances for the dancers. The company presents the finished works on Trafó’s Main Stage.
