Magnus Westwell, the young Scottish talent of Sadler’s Wells, a key venue for contemporary dance in London, is arriving to create the SUB.LAB.PRO ensemble’s last choreography for this season. Spanning the euphoric and the desolate, the performance invites the public into dream-like, ethereal worlds, where decaying and generative processes aim to challenge the limits of emotional and physical experience.

At the core of Only Seen in Dreams is an exploration of thresholds – the moments when sustained tension, repetition, and risk push both performers and audience to a tipping point. By staying with gestures, sounds, and ideas long enough to push them toward collapse, the work prioritises embodied, affective experience over narrative. Instead of treating sound, movement, and design as separate, the work emerges from their interdependence, with composition and choreography developed side-by-side.

Magnus Westwell is a Scottish choreographer and performer working at the intersection of contemporary dance and physical theatre. His work often explores the relationships between the body, identity, and memory through a strongly visual and conceptual approach. His creations have been presented on various European stages and at international festivals. Experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration play a key role in his artistic practice.

SUB.LAB.PRO The Ensemble Program is a creative platform for contemporary dancers to expand their technical skills and creative capabilities through choreographic creations. The program is designed to sustain and nourish the dancers at the start of their career paths by offering a complete tool kit that fosters the understanding and realistic appreciation of a professional company-like environment.to. During the training, 4 (in this season 5!) choreographers create full-evening performances for the dancers. The company presents the finished works on Trafó’s Main Stage.
