“D E F A U L T M O D E N E T W O R K” is a space where you can wander around. Ten performers diving into their internal tasks. Images emerge from a dreamlike dramaturgy. Giving space and time for things to happen and for images to appear. An illogical narrative is leading us through this journey. Our attention swings between the external and the within. “D E F A U L T M O D E N E T W O R K” invites us to walk the thin line between fiction and reality and plays with the border of focus and absentmindedness.
Default Mode Network:
The default mode network (DMN) is a set of brain regions that are most active when the mind is at wakeful rest, not focused on the outside world. It is associated with internally-focused activities like daydreaming, self-reflection, mind-wandering, recalling memories. It can also be active during detailed thoughts related to external task performance. Other times that the DMN is active include when the individual is thinking about others, thinking about themselves, remembering the past, and planning for the future. The DMN creates a coherent "internal narrative" central to the construction of a sense of self.
The second SUB.LAB.PRO premiere of Trafó’s 2025/2026 season is by Júlia Vavra, a freelance contemporary dancer, performer, and choreographer based in Budapest. She studied dance at the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy (2010-2015) and choreography at the School for New Dance Development, Amsterdam University of the Arts (2017-2021). Currently, she is active in Hungary’s independent arts scene and also works as a dancer and choreographer internationally. She is interested in the motion of activating decentralised territories, hidden and unseen segments within and outside of the world of the theatre. In October 2025 she premiered her most recent production Cold Blooded Mare at Trafó, which is a horror-inspired musical dance performance that draws on and haunts the complex systems of Hungarian national identity and folk culture (next performance: 4 March 2026).
SUB.LAB.PRO The Ensemble Program is a creative platform for contemporary dancers to expand their technical skills and creative capabilities through choreographic creations. The program is designed to sustain and nourish the dancers at the start of their career paths by offering a complete tool kit that fosters the understanding and realistic appreciation of a professional company-like environment.to. During the training, 4 (in this season 5!) choreographers create full-evening performances for the dancers. The company presents the finished works on Trafó’s Main Stage.
