It cannot see. It doesn't even know what it is to be seen. She is the blind beauty queen. The winner of a deadly beauty contest who has no idea what beauty is.”

Péter Kárpáti's plays was published in 2023 under the title Map of the Afterlife, with a selection of his new novel. Born from a dramatic chapter of the novel, the play Map of the Afterlife not only unfolds an unknown, mysterious episode of the life of Mari Jászai, but is also a deeply personal confession.

Kárpáti Péter kipenderül elénk, és kezdi mondani tűhegynyi iróniával, vagy annyival sem, hogy esett dédapjával annak idején: „de ami ilyen szépen kezdődik, az csúnyán végződik, ezt hívják dramaturgiának!” Nevetünk. Azt hiszem, azon, innentől igazán senkit se érdekel, hogy esett a dolog valójában.

A Térkép a túlvilágról lassú, intellektuális kalandra invitáló, nem várt megoldásokkal provokáló színház, amely arra tanít, hogy a mese, a csoda és a játék mindenben ott van. A pókhálóban, az óriáskaktuszban, és a főrabbi kölcsönadott szőrmesapkájában is.
Kárpáti Péter drámaíró a független színház mára „klasszikussá” vált alakja. Húsz éven át tanított az SZFE-n, jelenleg a magyar nyelvterület egyetlen drámaíró mesterképzését vezeti a Marosvásárhelyi Művészeti Egyetemen, de tanít az ELTE-n is, ill. a Freeszfe egyik alapítója.Nevéhez kötődik egy sajátos improvizációs technika, amely elmossa a határt fikció és valóság között.
