Sex Mob (USA)

Sex Mob is a New York City jazz band, originally formed as a Knitting Factory vehicle for Steven Bernstein to exercise his slide trumpet. Sex Mob's sets feature a high proportion of covers, usually familiar pop songs, given a humorous, but avant garde treatment. Bernstein points out that this is a return to a fundamental jazz tradition, to take a familiar song then disassemble and reassemble. Steven Bernstein is not only a trumpeter/slide trumpeter, bandleader, but an arranger, and composer who lives outside of musical convention. He formed Sex Mob in 1995 and since then, the band has been touring the world, winning numerous awards, and has had their music featured on MTV, Saturday Night Live and NPR.
