Afternoon of A Faun In her approach to this revolutionary Faun, Marie Chouinard chose to draw on the spirit of Nijinski’s creation. She thus preferred to immerse herself in Adolphe Meyer’s photographs of Nijinski’s performance rather than in the choreographic notations of the time. She created a dance of flat and horizontal profiles which, like the original choreography, recalls ancient Egyptian frescoes and the bas-reliefs of Greek vases.

Étude No. 1. Étude no. 1, a solo work by Marie Chouinard, is the result of the encounter between the choreographer, composer Louis Dufort and dancer Lucie Mongrain. In a minimal, blue rectangle setting that echoes the dancer’s steel-tipped shoes, Marie Chouinard has created a geometric and unbridled dance in five parts – five variations with specific themes and common body movements.

„Watching Marie Chouinard’s latest creation, “M,” is like having a fever dream where AI teaches cute mechanical dolls how to dance like humans. It’s simultaneously engrossing and off-putting, fascinating and annoying, too long but potentially endless.”
