An evening of dance and music in three parts: the dance duet Mikrokosmos, set to a composition by Béla Bartók for two pianos, a musical work by György Ligeti, performed by two pianists, and the dance to the Fourth String Quartet by Béla Bartók. All the music will be performed live. An exciting complicity develops between the musicians and the dancers. Bartók/Mikrokosmos is a performance about dance and music and especially about the pleasure of dancing and playing together, in which the spectators participate simply through the act of watching.
ICTUS is a contemporary music ensemble from Brussels, subsidised by the Flemish Community. Formed "on the road" with choreographer Wim Vandekeybus, since 1994 its home has been the premises of the Rosas dance company, which it often accompanies. Ictus is a permanent collective of co-opted musicians. Its programming explores the whole field of modern music written from 1950 to the present-day, with preference given to the present-day. A sound engineer is a regular member of the ensemble in the same way as the musicians are, evidence of how comfortable our generation is with electric and electronic instruments. Through concerts with commentary (first at the Kaai, then at the Lille Opera House, now at Flagey), Ictus speaks to the audience: yes, contemporary music can be spoken. Bozar, Kaaitheater and Flagey are the partners for the Brussels season, which encounters a cultivated – but non-specialist – audience. Since 2004, the ensemble has also been in residence at the Lille Opera House. Ictus has created an educational platform for performers (in the form of workshops) and composers (in the form of a two-year fellowship) and developed a collection of discs with fifteen or so titles. Most of the great halls and the best festivals have already played host to it (Musica Strasbourg, Witten, Brooklyn Academy of Music, le Festival d'Automne in Paris, Ars Musica, Milano Musica, Ultraschall, Wien Modern, and more).
Jean-Luc Plouvier was born in 1963. After he studied piano and chamber music at the Conservatoire de Mons, he concentrated on music of the twentieth (and twenty-first!) century exclusively. As a soloist he created works by Thierry De Mey, Brice Pauset and Philippe Boesmans. As a chamber musician, he worked with Bureau des Pianistes, in duo with Jean-Luc Fafchamps, and now with the Ictus Quartet and the Ictus Ensemble of which he is also artistic coordinator. Jean-Luc Plouvier is part of the crew of the Cinémathèque de Bruxelles, where he accompanies silent movies. He teaches "Music and Culture" at the Institut Marie Harp in the context of the formation to musicotherapy. He wrote music for the stage for choreographers such as Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Nicole Mossoux, Iztok Kovač and Johanne Saunier.
