The Trafó brings you a new musical series entitled Voices, which kicks off with the concert of Joan as Police Woman.

We’d like to introduce a number of artists and bands in this musical series which represent the more thoughtful and reflective – and thus melancholic – branch of pop music. For many of our guests, this will be their first visit to Hungary, such as in the case of Anthony Hegarty and the Cocorosie.
These performers aren’t merely focused on entertaining, but rather moving us as well with their personal stories. This can lead to a series of encounters with “device-less” and simple, yet always classically beautiful pieces of music and quiet distance instead of loud rebellion. As opposed to the commonly accepted sound, these performers directly speak to us through their own inner voices.

Joan Wasser’s slightly unusual alias stems from actress Angie Dickinson and the similarity between the two of them, who played the role of a female cop in an American television series from the 1970s. Deep down inside, Joan is a tough, jaunty cop, whose songs are full of intimacy and familiarity. Joan is a skilled violinist and a diva with a truly characteristic voice, who picked up on punk and rock music from the street.
As stated on her website: “Beauty is the new punk rock.”

“Joan Wasser is the best champagne in the world. A voice so wondrous and moving that it makes everyone else seem ordinary and mundane, the indie generation's Dusty Springfield. The Ride is the most hypnotic and majestic sad song ever and it’s so good it will make you shiver.”
(THE GUARDIAN - 27.05.06,Record Of The Week)

“For once a bizarre name flags a genuinely idiosyncratic talent. Real Life contains as much naked emotion as it does artful cleverness. A constant thrill.”
