Pál Frenák is celebrating the tenth anniversary of his company by recreating their 2002 performance-choreography. Significant figures from the contemporary dance scene whose careers were heavily impacted by their time spent in the Pál Frenák Company will also be making an appearance as guest stars.

The setting is rather unusual: an auditorium furnished with coffeehouse chairs and tables, and, surprisingly, a boxing ring in the center. The ring serves as the scene of a dance-struggle so fast paced that you can barely follow it. K.áO.sz! is a journey. The identities of the figures arriving into the ring constantly change from one minute to the next as they shift through love, betrayal, vengeance, and destruction. The usual borders between dancers and audience are blurred as performers of the wild physical-spiritual struggle become one with the audience. Looking through the cigarette haze in the dimly lit noisy space, it is in fact often hard to distinguish dancer from spectator.

"The scene and the auditorium in itself is already an ironical provocation. As if we were in Chicago or Las Vegas: in the middle, a boxing ring with arena settings, all around are chairs, tables, drinks for an almost male audience (who it seems would rather crave for blood and a knock out punch, K.O.). We sit around the ring and junk hits are egging us on. We drink. Around the ring, the well-known three-legged chairs, on chairs like these are the half-dead fighters being attended to in their corners, being fanned, and brought back to life with wet sponges. Everything is set for K.áO.sz! Our sense of security is vague: who would receive a low blow?! And where? Up in the ring, or here within us?" (Ferenc Dániel) www.criticailapok.hu

"The Feast’s and the K.áO.sz!’s premieres the year 2001 and 2002 brought outstanding success and popularity for the company. These plays are monumental, mature. The spirit of experimenting with technology, the working on childhood experiences, and the search for our own identities are linked together, and these are jointed through a new element: of social criticism. Both plays spit back into the audience’s faces, the post-modern city life’s fragmented elements as a mirror, as an enlarged nightmare." (Ádám Mestyán) www.szinhaz.net
