Once again on June 14th a duel of styles is coming up!
This time, at the second Red Bull Musicclash competition, the jazz/hip-hop/dub/experimental/reggae style shall clash with rock & roll, punk and garage rock, meaning that it will be the match between Barabás Lőrinc Eklektric and Supernem.
Within the framework of the Red Bull Musicclash, it is always two such bands that duel one another that would encounter each other rarely at the same musical event in the first place, as they represent entirely different styles, such as jazz and rap, hip-hop and folk rock, or death metal and soul. 2 bands, 2 types of musical styles, 2 stages, 4 musical assignments and a single audience.
The first Musicclash was in Szeged, where the Mystery Gang and the Balkán Fanatik broke the ice. At the end of the over two hours long concert the fan clubs of the two bands became rather intermixed; we hope that it will happen again at the current event.
Within the framework of Red Bull Musicclash II, on June 14th at Trafó Supernem and Barabás Lőrinc Eklektric will perform! The stakes are significant once again, as they each battle for the favour of the audience. And there can be hardly greater stake than this.
So what are we supposed to know about the two bands? Well, the musical styles thus far represented by Lőrinc Barabás and company, among others, are jazz, hip-hop, dub, reggae, French house, experimental and electronica. It’s never a certainty what we can expect from them. At one time it is as if we were listening to the delicate trumpet of Truffaz while another time the ’cool’ of Miles Davis shines through, imbedded into modern rhythms; but we can’t even pretend surprise when we encounter Eric Satie motifs. And rap and spoken word become such natural accompaniment to all this that instead of a multicultural ’disintegration’ a personal, smooth and authentic sounding production will make itself heard, generating a decidedly new sound domestically.
If many have trouble understanding the above lines, we suggest coming to the event to give meaning to the words. Supernem represents a touch more defined style than Lőrinc Barabás and company, as by their own admission they play ’acrobatic rock & roll’.
One thing is certain, if the two bands can generate a fantastic atmosphere separately, we can imagine what they are capable of together!
