Netherlands Vocal Laboratory (NL): Cirque Vocal

1500 Ft / Student: 800 Ft! (Trafó Season Ticket is valid)

The Nederlands Vocaal Laboratorium is a breeding ground and ever-changing ensemble that focuses specifically on developing and performing contemporary vocal and vocal-theatrical music, and on collaboration with and exchange between a huge range of art disciplines in different types of locations, with the aim of reaching a diversity of target groups. ’Cirque Vocal’ are the most precious vocal jewels sung by the soloists from the Nederlands Vocaal Laboratorium.

Motto of the evening: “Only singers who never have fear of heights are welcome!”

Mastercomposers have always wanted the voice to be used as a ‘magic wand’. Cirque Vocal is the coming to life of this wish. It is a collage of vocal moments from the 21st century, which can only be realised by vocal virtuosity. One moment voices sound like machines, while shortly after you can hear beautiful belcanto and just as quickly they become like spears swushing past your ear. The audience imagines itself in a science fiction world or is alternately being immersed by clear a capella ensemble music filled with sighs and whispers as “Leitmotif”. They see singers who express themselves like raging orating actrices. Ultimately they wander into an enchanted forest filled with imaginary animals.
