Masterclass held by Ballet Preljocaj rehearsal assistant
More info >>
The company was founded in 1985 and traveled the world with 45 choreographies, giving approximately 100 performances per year, two of which took place in our country this year. “Angelin Preljocaj is a member of the legendary generation which defined one of the most significant eras of French – and in fact, European – contemporary dance.” (Katalin Lőrinc, színház.net).
The two female dancers of Annonciation (Annunciation) tell the tale of how the angel Gabriel visited Mary to tell her that despite her virginity, a great change is about to take place in her body which will result in the birth of the Son of God. The viewers have a chance to experience this incredibly complex emotional scenario – and bodily experience – through dance.
Helicopter is a piece from 2001, written for six dancers and a piece of music composed by Karlheinz Stockhausen. Not only is it impossible to listen to Stockhausen's music – who was the postmodern trail-blazer of classical electronic music – it's unlistenable as well. However, Angelin Preljocaj faced up to this challenge and found a way to allow us to focus on the dancing taking place on stage while listening to the wild, techno-like sound of the propellers of four helicopters and four violins.
