In May PerformanceBus sets off again to Homokhátság - we will revisit the first journey we made in October, with the same stops, but connected via a different dramaturgy!

IN SHORT: PerformanceBus is a nomadic project with which we travel to different regions of Hungary, where we encounter and collaborate with local communities and partners The aim of the trip is to share experiences and start a much-needed dialogue on issues we have in common—that affect us all, even if we experience them differently.

In autumn 2025, Trafó launched a new initiative titled PerformanceBus in collaboration with Prague-based Studio ALTA. The project invites us to travel to different regions of the country, where we meet local communities and partners around shared concerns through artistic events. The aim of the journey is to foster exchange and dialogue around issues that, although experienced differently, affect us all. Participating artists and the ‘travelling audience’ set off together on the bus. While events also take place on board, the focus of the program is on the stops and the encounters. The trip lasts a full day, returning to Budapest late in the evening.

Our May trip takes us to southern Hungary, where drought is a pressing public issue that accompanies us throughout the Homokhátság region:

In Pusztavacs, in the geographical center of Hungary, Zsófi Rebeka Kozma and Imre Vass recall the infamous Peace Festivals of the 1980s, and set out to find the true center of Hungary.

In Zsombó, Katalin Bitó and Sasu Korom will dance a choreography about the consequences of human intervention in an idyllic setting that bears witness to ecological challenges.

In Bordány, at the Kisapáti farm, we explore the question of loneliness with choreographer Zsófia Szász, who transforms her solo piece Softloneliness, which was a huge success at the Under500 and NEXT festivals, into an unconventional duet with Katalin Kisapáti.

In Jászszentlászló, we come into close contact with the landscape and its changes with the help of water management activist Csaba Toldi, livestock farmer and ethnographer Gergely Lajkó, and the SVUNG research group.

We finish our trip in Kiskunfélegyháza, at the former Pharao Disco, where the young dancers of the acrobatic dance group Piramis Dance VFSE prepare a special performance with two choreographers Tamara Zsófia Vadas and Viktória Varga.
