The most famous singing brothers in India, Rajan & Sajan Mishra, are setting off on a world-tour for the first time in seven years. Their performance at Trafó will be the first time they have appeared in Hungary. Their programme ‘From Raga Bhairav to Raga Bhairavi’ is based on a unique concept – the two world-famous singers will lead us through an ocean of emotions by performing ragas normally played at different times of the day.
Pandit Rajan and Pandit Sajan Misra, who, amongst other accolades, have been awarded the prestigious Padmabhushan title, are the most famous representatives of one of the oldest and holiest cities - Benares - and its musical tradition Benaras Gharana. They tour around the world to showcase the vast richness of this heritage of Benares, historically called Kashi. The brothers have been awarded every musical title and prize in India and have also appeared on many stages all over the world to introduce this amazing music at its best. They are setting off on one last tour out of sheer love of the music.
This concert is sponsored by ICCR.
Accompanying musicians:
Sumit Mishra - harmonium
Sumit Mishra learnt music from his Father Pt. Sohan Lal Mishra, and his uncle Pt. Mohan Lal Mishra. His family is said to be the torchbearer of the Benaras Gharana in India. Sumit has performed with many eminent musicians in India and abroad, and is considered to be among the most gifted harmonium players in India.
Nihar Mehta - tabla
Nihar Mehta comes from one of the foremost and respected families of philosophers and musicians in Ahmedabad. They are also famous for “SAPTAC” – a music school and related festival – founded by the family in 1980. As Nihar grew up constantly surrounded by music, it became second nature to him, and from the age of 12 he started learning tabla from his uncle Nandan Mehta and Pt Puran Maharaj. Nihar was greatly inspired by his dada Guru Pt. Kishan Maharaji.
