Heiner Müller's modern classic, Quartet is based on the 18th century hit novel by Choderlos de Laclos. His only two characters, Marquise Merteuil and Vicomte Valmont play all characters of the story: men and women alike. In the present baroque multimedia vision of self-proclaimed drag queen, Márk Lakatos these androgynous characters — played by himself and a singer — are complemented with an actor and a dancer (sometimes male, sometimes female) to make up the quartet. Cold and fetishistic role plays in hot 21st-century chatrooms and hotter 18th-century masks with musical interventions from Purcell to the 80's trend-setting underground band, Bizottság. Merteuil and Valmont use themselves and their puppets for props in their risky game.
