Film Club: Don’t Just Watch It!

The first independent programme series organised by the Trafó Student Reporter Team.

We are launching a monthly film club where, on each occasion, we watch a film connected to a shared theme and then discuss it together. This is the first event at Trafó to be organised and hosted entirely by young people.

In November, our chosen film is The Danish Girl, directed by Tom Hooper. Based on the bestselling novel, this extraordinary biographical drama tells the story of painter Einar Wegener, one of the first known transgender women to undergo gender-affirming surgery. The film sensitively explores changing human relationships, artistic self-fulfilment, and the struggle of an extraordinary woman to live authentically as herself.

After each screening, the Student Reporter Team will lead an open discussion, giving everyone a chance to reflect on the film and share their thoughts. This time, we will also welcome a guest expert to help us explore the questions raised by the film in greater depth.

Our November guest is Hella Zsirka, a trans activist and queer feminist. She is one of the faces of the campaigns I’m Human Too and We Are Here, and We Are Here to Stay!, and serves as Operations Director and Executive Officer of the Háttér Society.

The film club is not intended for film experts. It’s an informal evening of films and conversation, open to anyone who enjoys watching movies, asking questions, or is simply curious about what others see in the very same story.
