Electrify vol. 13 // Zs (US), Horse Lords (US), Cloud Becomes Your Hand (US)

2400 Ft | in advanced booking: 1900 Ft (the first 100 tickets)
The thirteenth instalment of Electrify showcases the tip of the iceberg of the East Coast experimental scene’s new generation. The three bands set to appear are Brooklyn-based, wildly tenacious experimental trio Zs, methodical musical revisionists Horse Lords and cartoonish art-rockers Cloud Becomes Your Hand.

Following its formation in 2000, Zs quickly emerged as one of the foremost acts on the New York underground scene. Having its own past, present and future, they have developed a musical language which is an amorphous mass built on the traditions of rock, jazz, noise, drones and experimental electronics. Their sound is characterized by an electrifying freshness and a sense of purpose that knows no obstacles, while their deadly serious message offers both performer and listener the opportunity of discoveries that are both physically and mentally challenging.

Baltimore quartet Horse Lords layer West-African music, American folk, modern minimalism and art-rock into a tight, exquisite and entrancing sound. Their extensive research and respect for musical traditions has yielded an array of tools and techniques to be freely combined. This critically admired, peerless experimentation has been going on since 2010, during which time the ensemble has recorded three albums and three mixtapes. It is a process of re-evaluating musical traditions, giving rise to an unstoppable, liberating form of trance music.

The third performers of the night are Cloud Becomes Your Hand, who approach both psych-pop’s sweetness and punk-rock’s fervour with a childlike innocence, optimism and sense of freedom.  The sextet’s absurd cacophony is also said to be a great choice for moments when you feel like acting like you are in a cartoon.
