Canadian dancer and choreographer Catherine Gaudet explores the life-giving impulse that drives humanity by depicting its cycles in an obsessive manner that leads to catharsis. The Fading of the Marvellous consists of an endless sequence of recurrences - births, deaths, and rebirths in a dizzying attempt to portray that which transcends us.

Through the performance of her five dancers, Gaudet shifts away from her previous work by filtering in a theatricality that is based on various aspects of human relations. At the heart of her creative approach is an effort to dig beneath the mask we present in society. She uses the circular form – spatial, internal, instinctual – as a backdrop to her focus on cycles as a universal structure. Often downright geometric and refined, these sequences then convey a profoundly human experience that is unequivocally attuned to the other.

Catherine Gaudet began her dance career working for various choreographers before turning her attention to her own choreographic research in 2004. Her works include Grosse fatigue (2005), L’arnaque (2006), Sourire forcé (2009), L’invasion du vide (2009), Je suis un autre (2012), Au sein des plus raides vertus (2014), La très excellente et lamentable tragédie de Roméo et Juliette (2016), Tout ce qui va revient (2018), The Fading of the Marvellous (2018) along with a number of short works. They have been presented in Québec, France, Denmark and Belgium. Catherine Gaudet completed both her bachelor’s degree and her masters in contemporary dance at the Université du Québec à Montréal. She is among the creative minds behind the new Centre de création O Vertigo, together with Mélanie Demers, Caroline Laurin-Beaucage and Ginette Laurin. She is an associate creator at Daniel Léveillé Danse (DLD) since February 2018, and receives its development and touring support.
